The company I work for is running a thing called the Eat Well, Live Well Challenge. The goal of the Eat Well, Live Well Challenge is to get people to eat better, and exercise more. We get free pedometers, and will count our steps, and log them. They want us to work up to 10,000 steps a day. I still need to figure out if that is everyday. I already have a pedometer, so I threw it on, and have been playing with it. I ran 2 miles with it on the other day, and it counted about 2034 steps. I am probably burning more calories running 2000 steps than someone walking even more. But it should be fun. I have to look at the dates. The challenge is supposed to go on for 8 weeks. So chances are I will be running something during the challenge. The Buffalo marathon might fall within the challenge date. If I rack up 1000+ steps per mile (and probably more when I slow down and start walking), I will be close to 30,000 steps just during the race, if not more.
Besides walking, they want us to eat fruits & vegetables. We are supposed to count, and log the number of cups of fruits & vegetables we eat each day.
I signed up as a team captain. I have tried to recruit some of the more athletic people figuring they will already be walking a lot, and eating vegetables.
I will have to read more about the rules. A cup of peas, doesn’t equal a cup of salad. Salad is mostly air. Hey, I could easily eat 4-5 cups of salad in a sitting or more. I wouldn’t try to eat that much peas or other types of vegies.
