Low Fat Diet & Recipes

Low Fat Diet, Exercise And Weight Loss

Google

I started my weight-loss project months ago. My goal was to lower my body fat. I did it by simply eating low-fat healthy foods and exercising. My weight at the start was in the mid 180s, and this morning I weighted in at 167 pounds! I just got back from vacation on which I probably could have eaten a lot healthier, but I didn’t lose to much ground. I am still working on getting the six-pack abs.

My BEFORE pic is dated January 7, 2007.

My AFTER pics are May 31st, 2007 (10 minutes ago):

If a have good quality salmon, my prefered method of cooking is baking it with a little butter (or buttery spray) and lemon juice. I don’t like adding much that will cover/change the salmon taste. But I while back I bought a bag of frozen salmon filets that just weren’t as good as fresh salmon. So I would use them with other recipes. This is one of the recipes I liked:

Sour Cream Dill Sauce:
1/2 Cup fat-free sour cream
1 tsp. dried dill
1 Ttsp. lemon juice
1/4 shallot, minced
dash cayenne pepper
salt to taste
pepper to taste

Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl.

Pan Seared Salmon:
1/2 lb. salmon filet or steak per person
Extra virgin olive oil spray

Spray not-stick skillet with olive oil. Heat skillet over medium heat. Cook salmon steaks, skin side down, in pan for 5 minutes. Using spatula, turn steaks over and cook for another 3 minutes. If salmon not cooked through, turn again, and cook till done. Place cooked salmon on a plate. Top with Sour Cream Dill Sauce.

Along our driving trip to New England, we stopped at a gas station hoping to pick up some snacks. There were tons of junk food. But I was hoping to find something at least moderately low-fat and healthy. I searched the shelves, and amongst all the fat-filled stuff, I found some fat free Pringles! SCORE!!! I didn’t even know they made fat-free Pringles! They had two different flavors: Original and Sour Cream & Onion. I bought a can of each flavor. I have always liked Pringles, but haven’t had any for quite a while. Back in the car, we tried to decide which can to open. We settled on the Sour Cream & Onion. My wife popped the can open, and we tried the chips. They were pretty good. Not as good as normal fatty Pringles, but considering they were fat free, they were very good. We finished off the can over the next hour or so. Later that day, we opened the can of Original flavored Fat-Free Pringles. They were also very good. The store only had the two flavors, but it is possible Pringles makes other fat-free flavors. I will have to check a larger grocery store.

I weighed myself this morning and was shocked to see I was down to 163.8 lbs! A little later as I was getting dressed for work, I buckled my belt, and something felt different. I looked down and saw I was in the 4th hole instead of the 3rd hole. I am getting skinnier!
And the thing is, I am not really even trying that hard. I swear that eating low fat healthy foods is best diet for losing weight.
I hesitate to even call it a diet as it is really just eating healthy. I don’t do anything like counting calories, or weighing stuff, or marking off points. I eat a lot of Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine meals, because they are low fat, healthy, and they are relatively cheap when they are on sale! I just bought a bunch of Lean Cuisines on sale for $1.88 each, and I have gotten them for as cheap as $1.50, or even a $1.25.
I just eat mostly like normal, but I use butter substitutes, and I avoid stuff with lots of fat. I really don’t eat that much less. It gets to be almost fun trying to see how low of fat that you can make certain recipes, or finding the lowest fast foods in stores.
I am not even really trying to lose weight at this point, but maintain my weight while burning fat. And the fat is disappearing!
Of course exercise is a vital part of the equation! I eat low fat healthy foods (most of the time), and I exercise, and the weight just falls offs!
So if you are looking for the best diet for losing weight, limit yourself to food where the perecentage of calories from fat is 20% or less of the total calories. But then, don’t eat a pound of sugary junk and say it is fat free! Just eat healthy low fat food, and exercise!

I was in the mood for a Big Mac, but I didn’t want all the fat. Then it flashed through my head to try to make a low fat version. While it didn’t taste EXACTLY like a real Big Mac, it was still very good.

Ingredients:
4-6 oz 95% lean ground beef (real Bag Mac used 4oz)
2 tsp Fat free Thousand Island Dressing
Shredded lettuce
1 slice fat free american cheese
3 pickle slices
Chopped onion
1 1/2 Seasame seed buns (middle bun is was the bottom, or part of the top of another bun)

Directions:
Divide the ground beef into two equal parts. Form them into balls, and make into patties preferably using hamburger patty press. Throw them on the grill.

Build the burger in the following order:
Bottom bun
1 tsp fat free thousand island dressing
Half of onion
Half of luttuce
Fat free american cheese
Burger patty
Middle bun
1 tsp fat free thousand island dressing
Half of onion
Half of luttuce
Pickle chips
Burger patty
Top bun
